I would go for one of these 2 because they combine a lot of the good stuff of pro tools with a lot of the good stuff from ableton. Logic is more popular in the rock / metal / indie scene and cubase is more common for movie and video game scores I believe. I use logic personally but it’s only on Mac while cubase is on mac and pc so something to consider. If you plan on doing all kinds of genres in your home studio I would use one of these 2. Both of these programs handing recording, editing, mixing, and midi composition well, can incorperate video into the project but lack the live performance features of ableton. It also is designed for live performance, rather than recording, mixing.įor a home studio artist who does other stuff (rock/metal/alternative/indie/film scores etc…) the industry standard would probably be Logic, or Cubase. It has intuitive features for composing using midi instruments, samples, and warping audio. ![]() Not intuitive for someone writing and recording their own music.įor home studios I would seperate by genre.įor electronic music the industry standard is Ableton these days. Pro Tools is not really feasible for a home studio though, it’s designed to control large amounts of hardware and is more geared towards the audio engineer rather than the artist. Professional Studios will almost always run Pro Tools.
